Outdoor Movie Night

Our oldest son, Evan, is currently serving as our church's youth pastor. He likes planning fun activities for the kids and asked if he could host an outdoor movie night at the house.

At some point, my husband wants to construct a better screen for outdoor use with PVC pipe, but for a quick set up last night, he used a drop cloth, a couple of nails, and some heavy duty beach towel clips. He hung the drop cloth over the garage door.  We used a projector with speakers and the kids all brought their own chairs. We supplied some drinks and candy and around 8:30 pm, they started their movie.

You have to have movie candy!

(The jars were used to hold Twizzlers.)

Last night they watched...

It was fun seeing all the kids in our driveway hanging out and having a good time. This idea could work for all kinds of gatherings. I think I'd like to do this for our youngest son's birthday party in September.

I'd love to have one of these for another movie night...

I think you can actually rent these along with cotton candy machines. But I tend to plan too big, or at least, that's what I've been told by someone else that lives in this house with me. ( Okay,  I admit it. I was searching the internet this morning for "How to Build a Concession Stand ".)

Have you ever done a movie outside? I'd love to hear some of your tips. We are planning another one for next month.

Hope you are having a great summer!

  1. That looks like so much old fashioned fun! I've seen other people do that and would love to do the same. I think you can get popcorn machines at Sam's or Costco sometimes for not too much.

  2. I think they all had a good time:) The drop cloth actually worked well for a movie. I would love to get one of those at Sam's Club someday.

  6. We usually do a few outdoor movie nights but with busy schedules have not been able to so far this summer. We show the movie on the side of the house. The kids would put out air mattresses to sit on and the adults would hang out on the patio. Such a fun idea!
